IHFD’s founding partners have been working in various countries, providing housing, mortgage and other services. Throughout their experience they appreciate the value of working with the disadvantaged across the world. Being fully aware of the value of home ownership and being strong believers in creating wealth for people of all creeds and backgrounds, they have initiated programs to build complete sustainable communities for low to middle income households and offer the homes with 15 to 20 year mortgages. Also being strong believers in environmentally sound technologies, they planned their communities using only environmentally sound construction material and technologies. The first project of IHFD will be in the outskirts of Kabul, Afghanistan, where the housing needs are extremely high. The government has allocated to IHFD free of cost land equivalent to 1,500 acres (600 hectares) for the construction of 10,000 housing units and associated commercial areas. Interestingly the area is called Deh-Sabz, which translates to “The Green Village”, an appropriate name for the location of the first application of IHFD’s green technologies and environmentally sound construction techniques.
