TerraBrick Viability:
The GreenMachine and associated TerraBricks are expected to find an enthusiastic reception in Afghanistan.  Some of the reasons are:

  1. TerraBricks are soil based. Soil is the preferred construction material base in Afghanistan and has superior energy efficiency due to thermal mass benefits, which are necessary given the significant temperature variances in the country.
  2. The GreenMachine is portable. It can be towed by a small truck as it weighs only 1 ton. Thus remote rural areas will be able to benefit from the machine.
  3. The TerraBricks have very high compressive strength and when combined with cement (up to 8%) are compatible for exposure to all types of weathers, including sub-zero temperatures, moisture, etc.
  4. The TerraBricks are relatively low cost, enabling private and corporate builders to save construction material and reduce their construction cost.
  5. The tongue and grooves built into the shape of the brick, will help to eliminate the use of mortar in a mortarless dry stack construction. Thus construction material costs as well as construction labor costs are less, making the overall construction cheaper. Furthermore, it eliminate thermal leakage points and enhances thermal characteristics of the building.
  6. The TerraBricks have excellent resistance to hurricane winds and seismic tremors, making them viable for any part of Afghanistan.
  7. The TerraBricks are fireproof, non-combustible and waterproof, reducing hazards due to fires and weather conditions.
